This was a pretty good book. I liked all three of the main characters, their story was interesting. This is the first book I've read by this author and based on this I'd be willing to try more of her work in the future.
Thea is a good woman who almost makes a huge mistake. Her husband and his best friend were lost in a plane crash 2 years before and Thea let herself be manipulated and used by Lloyd, who used lies and illusion to convince her that she needs him and also to separate her from her family. She's almost ready to marry Lloyd but realizes she just can't marry him when she can barely stand to kiss him. She calls off the wedding and quickly realizes just how many lies Lloyd has been telling. It quickly becomes apparent he's willing to do anything (including kill) in order to get what he feels he "deserves" and Thea finds out there's a possibility that her husband and friend might still be alive.
Dexter and Russel have been best friends for years. They both met Thea at the same time but it was love at first site for Dexter and Thea and Russel didn't get a chance. Dexter and Thea got married and had a good life and Russel was a good friend but there was never anything sexual between Russel and any of them before the crash. Russel was bi though and kept this part of himself hidden. Dexter has some curiosity in his past but never anything that led him to try anything with another man and he was happy in the sexual life he and Thea had.
When Dexter and Russel get stuck on the island it eventually comes out that Russel has always wanted something with Dexter. With the thought that they'll be stuck on the island for good, they end up turning to each other for comfort and this becomes sexual. During this time they also talk about Thea and Russel admits he fell for Thea the first day they all met but since her and Dexter fell for each other he didn't think he should say anything. The guys sustained themselves with each other and dreaming about what it would be like to have Thea there with them, all 3 of them together sexually. They didn't think this was actually a possibility though and they decided if they were ever rescued, they'd stop their sexual relationship and never mention it again. This ends up being more difficult than they thought. When Thea stops the wedding and confronts Lloyd, she finds some information that gives her a new place to look for Dexter and Russel. The search planes are sent out and they do find the men, bringing them back home. Thea and Dexter want some time alone and spend the first few days together at the lake house, getting to know each other again and reconnecting.
While Dexter and Russel are getting settled back in, they all get subjected to bad publicity as Lloyd starts telling lies to the press, even after a judge tells him not to. There's evidence that Lloyd was stealing money from the company and also sabotaged Dexter and Russel's plane to try to kill them but until Lloyd gets sent to jail the press is eating up the crap he's spewing. This doesn't make things easy for the trio and they decide to go to a mountain retreat to get away. Things start well enough but as they spend time there, Thea realizes that there's something unusual going on between Russel and Dexter. She's unsure what it is but then happens upon them in the wee hours of the night, together intimately. She's shocked and upset and wonders if this is the end of her marriage. She forces a confession from the men in the morning. TBH, I though Dexter was rather disappointing here because he just freaked and didn't say hardly anything. It ended up being more Russel and Thea that talked things out and it comes out that the 2 men would like to have her with them and not split anything up. After some thinking, some talking and some time, Thea decides to give it a try rather than just throwing her marriage away and finds she's actually rather turned on at the idea. During the time in the mountain home they explore their new relationship and connect as a threesome. There is some drama that comes up having to do with Lloyd and all that but gets concluded well (outside of some danger to Thea). Things end well and Russel, Dexter and Thea move on with their lives and find a HEA that works for all three of them.
I enjoyed this story and the characters in it. I will say that there were a few points that I felt were a little too much in the "suspend all disbelief" area and a few parts of the story that could have been a bit smoother (it wasn't editing issue, just didn't read as smoothly as it seems it could have) but overall I thought it was a pretty good story. I'd recommend this book. )
