ATF Special Agent Allison Jacob leads a task force that has trailed meth from the Mexican border to Wisconsin. Teamed with the Milwaukee Police Special Crimes Unit, she fights a daily battle with drugs, sex crimes, and murders, but her investigation has hit a wall—on the streets and within her organization.
In the worst blizzard of the year, the latest victim unexpectedly shows up at AJ’s office. Bright and attractive, small business owner Katie Blackburn angrily relates her experience during the interview when, unknowingly, Katie gives AJ the break she’s desperately needed.
Immediately, Katie presents another kind of battle for AJ. Just as she took the oath to keep America safe, AJ’s heart begins to feel the same oath for Katie. AJ knows drugs don’t care who handles them, but she does. It’s her job and her war.

This taut and electrifying book is at once a jarring and compelling matrix of romance and suspense that brings the so-called War on Drugs into your own backyard and the ever-popular love story of apparent opposites into your library...or bedroom.C.P. Rowlands has managed to do what no amount of government expenditures has: She makes you see, and care about, the real war on drugs, especially the soul-killing meth epidemic that continues to ravage our once-idyllic rural countryside. This country's pretty little towns, sweet villages, productive farms and a pastoral way of life have seen better days. Gone is the Wisconsin of my childhood dairy farm summers; gone is the safety and security of small village life of my youth. In its place are the drug networks populated by bankers, gang-bangers and brilliant minds gone terribly wrong. Rowlands knows how it happens: The addict's lament resonates with the tremulous timbre of regret, the conniving of resourcefulness and the weft and warp of justification all wrapped up into neat nickel and dime packages marketed to "the casual" user. Or the non-user who capitalizes on the addictive tendencies of our entire nation as it desperately seeks a way to numb itself from the realization that keeping it simple isn't easy.
Rowlands lets us fully into the lives of the officials who fight the lonely war on drugs--she lets us see how the drug fighters and the people who love them are one meth-head's crazy spiral away from being shot. As the action amps up, so does the romance. But the two lovers are a simultaneous blend of tough reality and tenderness and passion. These are not the bland, one-dimensional characters of formula Romance: These women are smart, savvy and self-reliant, each in her own way, both as complement to one another, even as they each resist the magnetic pull of attraction.
Others have told the essence of the story, so I will simply say that it takes quite a good writer to match the realistic and gritty drug landscape with the sensitive, telling and well-drawn romance of people falling in love. But Rowlands has done just that, making Jacob's War a fulfilling and rewarding book on many levels. It's very hard to treat the contemporary ills of the world in a riveting manner while keeping the reader's interest in the unfolding love story at the same level of intrigue. Rowlands has done it, and she's done it well. Highly recommended.

Jacob War edition by CP Rowlands Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Average read, nothing exciting
This is a very good book, After reading this book I got some more of the writers other books, wonderful story. I loved the issuses the characters delt with in this book.
This is an enjoyable book with good character development. As is becoming the norm, there are editing problems; however, once you overlook these the book is much better than many I have recently read. I recommend this novel and will be keeping an eye out for a sequel.
I love 'bang-bang shoot 'em up' books, especially when the talented author keeps me wondering what could possibly happen next. This book was hard to put down.
As the story opens, you're not really sure what is going on, but Rowland develops her characters and the plot. It always seems like evil finds the innocent and digs in, but this book kept it full of suspense and action. Great read, hard to put down.
I enjoyed reading Jacobs War, Boz the books dedication suggested that I should read it....It stared out a little slow but once I stated it i could not stop. I enoyed it from start to end...
"Jacob's War" was a good read; I just didn't find it as intriguing as other books I have read until the very end. C.P. Rowlands did spend a lot of time developing her characters which may help the series as I read through them. The intensity in the book lay more in wondering who would die next.
